Extreme sports in our solar system- What was the tv episode?
« Reply #7 on: July 20, 2010, 09:39:53 AM »
A couple of years ago, I watched a documentary on the extreme sports you could do on some of our planets and moons. For instance, if you threw a baseball on Phobos, it would take about an hour but would circle the entire moon and fly back to you. Or if you skiied on certain planets, half your face would be burned by the volcanoes and the other half would be frozen. Or how you could fall off the cliffs of Miranda and not hit anything for 5 minutes. I thought it was narrated by Albert Brooks but I could be wrong. It aired on either SciFi, History or Discovery Channels.

The bungee cord that is used today is predominantly made up of rubber and synthetic materials. When creating the equipment, the height and weight of different people are taken into account in order to ensure survival. Different cords are used for different weighted people to ensure maximum safety. It is up to scientists to make sure they use a medium between flexible and stiff in order to let the extreme sportsman enjoy the sport and keep him alive.
